BUILDING BLOCKS WITH MINTS

It is time for me to study numismatics again. Did you collect stamps as a kid? As an aspiring author, writing on my first forthcoming book on (black) tea, I want to use an excerpt from Ayn Rand's essay, Why I Like Stamp Collecting:

In all those years, I had never found a remedy for mental fatigue. Now, if I feel tired after a whole day of writing, I spend an hour with my stamp albums and it makes me able to resume writing for the rest of the evening. A stamp album is a miraculous brain-restorer.

I am often asked why people like stamp collecting. So widespread a hobby can obviously have many different motives. I can answer only in regard to my own motives, which I have observed also in some of the stamp collectors I have met.

The pleasure lies in a certain special way of using one's mind. Stamp collecting is a hobby for busy, purposeful, ambitious people ... because, in pattern, it has the essential elements of a career, but transposed to a clearly delimited, intensely private world.

(Minkus Stamp Journal, Vol. VI, No. 2 - 1971.)

Here are some photos from my collection of silver coins:  Money clip (silver coin) used as a tie-bar. Australian Saltwater Crocodile silver coin. #numismatics Britannia £2 silver coin. #numismatics Vienna Philharmonic MS 69 silver coin. #numismatics American Silver Eagle coin struck at West Point Mint. Early Releaes - MS 69. Libertad silver coin

The Future of Podcasting

[Editor's note: Please check out the blog post for the editorial cartoon by John Cox & Allen Forkum, Instagram photos, and my tweet.]
After doing some introspection, listening to fellow podcasters on different topics (e.g., hobby versus indie podcasters, and so called procasters / mainstream media radio broadcasters), and checking my book plan, I have decided to mix it up a bit and test a new podcast format and I will develop my workflow, over a period of time.
This post has been percolated for a couple of days, so I want to say cheers to the attendees at the podcasting conference, Podcast Movement.
As my thoughts on the future on my podcasting have been sinking in and I have "chewed" on the challenges with the workflow of EGO NetCast, I stumbled upon a transcription service called Trint, thanks to Fizzle's blog post (10 Killer Links for Entrepreneurs in 2017) for Fizzle Show podcast, episode 226.
After I have finished tinkering and pondering, I have to catch up with the backlog of my guests provided by PodcastGuests.com.

In the pipeline:
Through the grapevine:
  • A guy who picked my brain in a positive way asked me about the optimal length of a podcast. He will launch his podcast in September.
  • I have become Nita Silverspjuth’s web PT, and she will launch her podcast, Management Studio (in Swedish), in September.
  • I am working with a couple of members of the Swedish Civil Protection Association, in Gothenburg, as they will start their own podcast on the notion of being prepared for 72 hours
  • In November I will talk about the future of podcasting regarding new technologies, trends, and the potentialities for the podcast industry, at a podcast conference in Stockholm. The talk will be for 40 minutes with 5 minutes for Q&A. The target audience is communication professionals (marketing managers, public relation officers, etc.)
Shout out to:

You could say that this is the tangram puzzle of podcasting!

EGO Interview with Colin Gray

The interview with Colin Cray, a.k.a the Podcast Host, was recorded (length: 59 minutes) on June 5, with the Ringr app. At the beginning of our conversation we talk about Colin's interest in mountain biking and I mention Jerry Nilson's site Cycloclimbing.com ("Road cycling on mountain roads").
As a fellow podcaster, I experienced plenty of aha-moments during the episode. I got several new ideas for the podcasts that I am involved in, and potential features for new podcasts in the pipeline...
I am tinkering on how I could apply "content stacking" on my social media activities in the near future.

EGO Interview with Jim Palmer

The interview with Jim Palmer was recorded (length: 51 minutes) on May 23, with the Ringr app. During our conversation, we talk about Jim's new book, Just Say Yes, his coaching business, and the new floating home.
You could say it is a small world when you find out that Jessica Rhodes of InterviewConnections.com, is Jim's daughter. Her colleague, Sue Morton (expert podcast matchmaker, client happiness), reached out to me through the service called PodcastGuests.com. After my personal assistant of X.ai, Amy Ingram (powered by artificial intelligence), got confused about the scheduling of the interview, Jim's wife, Stephanie Palmer, picked up the conversation thread and coordinated the booking.
Another tidbit: After the interview, I connected with Jim on LinkedIn and saw that he had studied at the same university (Southern New Hampshire University) as yours truly.
Here are some links to books, resources, and sites, mentioned during the first half of the show:
You will find more show notes on the blog in July, after I am back on track with the backlog of recorded interviews.

EGO Interview with Sean Douglas

The interview with Sean Douglas was recorded on April 3 (length: 47 minutes).
[Editor's note: I am catching-up with a backlog of recordings, so please stay tuned... I have been under the weather due to "bandwidth anxiety." I am "eating fiber" (and "onion") nowadays, so I am fit for fight again! ;)]
I am sorry to say that this recording got caught by the browser bug. Kris of Ringr told me that it was caused by a webRTC issue with wrong sample rate for the recording.
For more information about Sean Douglas ("U.S. Air Force Veteran, Motivational & Inspirational Speaker, Master Resilience Trainer, Life Coach, & Author"), check out his Facebook page, podcast (Life Transformation Radio), and book (Decisions: The Power To Overcome Self-Defeating Behaviors).
For the record: I am sticking with Ringr. On a related note, please check out these podcasts, posts, and resources:

ANNUAL BLOG REPORT XV

I have now been blogging for 15 years and published 2778 posts. Pageviews so far: 911,000.

I haven't been active on this blog during the year, but I will keep blogging here now and then. I have set up this blog as a destination through my podcast host, Libsyn, so new episodes of EGO NetCast will automatically show up here as blog posts.

I will do an update on my birthday on May 25 with a special podcast episode, celebrating 15 years as a blogger. I will also do a live streaming session, thanking the backers and supporters of my first forthcoming book on tea, with illustrations by John Cox.

2017-05-15 🔜December 16. Boston Tea Party.

EGO Interview with Jim Sweeney

I interviewed Jim Sweeney on February 13. I wonder if Jim's favorite beverage is apple cider? I look forward to a followup conversation with MikeRaffone in the near future.
[Editor's note: Our conversation ended in an abrupt way, around the 50 min. mark, due to a technical issue.]

Creating a Newsletter with a Twist

Do you have your own newsletter? How many newsletters do you read on a regular basis? Maybe I am a "cool kid" according to Veselina Gerova's definition! I have figured out the why of starting a newsletter... The challenge now is to stick with it. Here is an excerpt from issue number 2 of Lyceum Bulletin:

On 2/2, with 22 subscribers to my newsletter, I thought it was time to publish another issue of Lyceum Bulletin! ;)

My goal is to send out a new issue once a week with new media tidbits, business philosophy related topics, and the good life stuff (including tea and chile peppers). Elsie Escobar’s announcement on The Feed podcast, sparked the idea to start a weekly newsletter.

I will add a twist to the bulletin by including a short audio clip in English and Swedish, as a mini podcast episode. It could be a “behind the scene” moment, a shout out to a new subscriber, feedback on the content, etc. I will start with this feature in the next issue of Lyceum Bulletin. I am feeling a bit under the weather with a sore throat at the moment, so I will spare you to hear a soundbite of my wheezy voice this time.

I Have a Message

#ThisIsMyMessage is the hashtag for the podcast documentary, The Messengers. My podcast, EGO NetCast, will be mentioned in the credits of the film, as I have been one of the backers of the crowdfunding campaign for the making of this movie. I recently purchased The Messengers black t-shirt via TeeChip.
I am thinking of using this service for the crowdfunding campaign for my first forthcoming book on (black) tea (#teaFTWbook). I have registered an account on Red Bubble, after reading a post on Small Business Trends. I have added John Cox's caricature of Ralph Waldo Emerson and his tea quote:
I have been thinking about my struggle with the workflow of this podcast, compared with the "flow" I have together with my co-host, Johan Gustaphzon, on Produktivitéet (productivity + tea = "productivitea" in Swedish). Should I keep on creating content for EGO NetCast? I have come to the conclusion that I will continue with this podcast, because I have a message to deliver:
This episode of EGO NetCast is produced (read: "marinated" / procrastinated) during the intermediate days between Boxing Day ("Another Day X-mas" in Swedish) and New Year's Day. Please, listen to the episode for more details regarding the show notes, including shout out messages and related links to this holiday show. The next solo episode will cover my three words for 2017, according to Chris Brogan's meme.
