THE PHILOSOPHY OF DEATH

Read Paul Berman's interesting essay, The Philosopher of Islamic Terror. [Via Winds of Change.NET.] You have to sign up for a free account @ the New York Times Magazine web site, but I think it is worth the time to do it. Sayyid Qutb is the philosopher of militant Islam. Here is a quote:

"You are meant to suppose that a true reader of Sayyid Qutb is someone who, in the degree that he properly digests Qutb's message, will act on what has been digested. And action may well bring on a martyr's death. To read is to glide forward toward death; and gliding toward death means you have understood what you are reading."

Here is another interesting article: Among the Bourgeoisophobes. Why the Europeans and Arabs, each in their own way, hate America and Israel. By David Brooks. [Via Armed Liberal.] Here is an excerpt:

"Sayyid Qutb, who is one of the intellectual heroes of the Islamic extremists, toured America between 1948 and 1950. He found a world of jazz, football, movies, cars, and people obsessed with lawn maintenance. It was a land, he wrote, "hollow and full of contradictions, defects and evils.""

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE "PEACE" MOVEMENT

I am getting sick and tired of the glorification of the "peace" movement, "human" shields, et al. Time for some intellectual ammunition against the peace nicks! For a great analysis of the anti-war crowd, read Peter Schwartz' editorial, They Hate Us, Too. [Via Mark Wickens.] Here is a quote:

"The "anti-war" rallies are generated not by any love for Iraq, but by a hatred for Americaor, more fundamentally, for the principle America represents. The protestors oppose the individualism that lies at America's foundation."

From Ira Straus' article, Atlantic Man: Strange silence over Saddam:

"If we simply change one assumption, all these strange things begin to make perfect sense. Let us stop assuming that the "peace" movement is about peace. Let us try out instead the hypothesis that the "peace" movement is really about enmity toward the United States and the West. Suddenly everything falls into place."

Rachel Corrie is described as a martyr in a Swedish tabloid: "She died for peace." For a more accurate story, read Steven Zak's piece, From Human Shields to Enemy Combatants. [Via Little Green Footballs.]

To end the post in a positive way, read Arnaud de Borchgrave's article, Lucky Break for Jordan. Here is an excerpt:

"Kenneth Joseph, a young American pastor with the Assyrian Church of the East, told UPI the trip "had shocked me back to reality." Some of the Iraqis he interviewed on camera "told me they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start.""

DIXIE CHICKS

My friend, Michael Gold, sent the following letter to a country station in Houston:

Subject: No More Dixie Chix

Thank you!!!! I got in my truck to go to the ranch to ride my horse and just caught your announcement about ya'lls suspending play of the Dixie Chicks. I had to come back inside really quick, and say: Thanks.

Ya'll are right. Ya'll have my support, for one.

The DC's are wrong to denounce President Bush, and if they are speaking badly of Texas like it sounded in your commentary, that is all the more reason to cut the DC's off the station.

I have heard rumblings that the DC's are "anti-war???"

Well, I don't like war either, but there is no compromise between a free country and a Medieval dictatorship, between evil and good, between life and death.

Reality and truth -- and the evidence of centuries of history -- point definitely and unequivocally to one conclusion: you can deal with evil, irrationality, only by force: chains, prisons, war, destruction, and sometimes, it's death. Sorry, but that's unfortunately the way the world works.

I shudder to think what the world would be like if the "anti-war" people had their way regarding Nazi Germany in the 40's -- or even Imperial Britain in the 1700s.

Me, I love this country and all it stands for: rights, freedom, self-sovereignty, reason, and human life.

Truth and Honor,

Michael Gold

EAT MEAT!

This evening, six individuals gathered at an American sportsbar in Gothenburg, joining Meryl Yourish's campaign, International Eat an Animal for PETA Day. We had a jolly good time, eating tasty animals (I had a big basket of hot Buffalo wings) and discussing animal "rights". For more food for thought, please take some time and read the following editorials:

Animal's "Rights" Versus Man's Rights. Animal "Rights" Activists Want to Sacrifice Man's Rights. By Edwin A. Locke.:

"Only man has the power to deal with other members of his own species by voluntary means: rational persuasion and a code of morality rather than physical force. To claim that man's use of animals is immoral is to claim that we have no right to our own lives and that we must sacrifice our welfare for the sake of creatures who cannot think or grasp the concept of morality. It is to elevate amoral animals to a moral level higher than ourselves a flagrant contradiction. Of course, it is proper not to cause animals gratuitous suffering. But this is not the same as inventing a bill of rights for them at our expense."

Paul McCartney Joins PETAs Attack on Human Rights. McCartney should fight against, not join, PETAs fundraising event. By Edwin A. Locke.:

"The concept of rights is meaningless when applied to beings incapable of reason. In fact, the means of survival of many animals is killing and eating other animals they have no choice about this and no other means of survival unless humans do the killing for them. The real motive of arbitrarily endowing animals with rights is to harm human beings by preventing the use of animals for food, pets and medical research aimed at curing deadly diseases."

Animal Rights vs. Human Rights. The animal-rights movement seeks not to prevent needless cruelty to animals, but to inflict it upon human beings. By Andrew Bernstein.:

"The very attempt to grant rights to animals is an attempt to deny them to human beings. It is man alone to whom the very concept of rights applies because it is only man whose survival requires them. It is only man for whom rights are possible and necessary. Man cannot survive by instinct and by brute force, as animals do. He survives by reason."

AMERICAN IN SPIRIT

Kudos to Fredrik Norman for starting the ad-hoc organization, Norwegian Friends of America ("Venner av Amerika" in Norwegian). [Via InstaPundit and Mark Wickens.] Read the article, Students rally support for USA.

I think it could be tough to start a campaign in favor of America in Sweden at the moment. America shouldn't count on military supplies from Sweden in the near future. Add this incident to the collection of THE DARK SIDE OF SWEDEN. As a neutral country, Sweden has had a hard time to pick the right side on several occasions, trying to evade the whole situation by standing in the middle-of-the-road, waiting to get hit by a "speeding truck"... No wonder why Chomsky managed to do a tour in Sweden in 2002 and that 100,000 Swedes marched along on February 15. Nevertheless, it is never too late to change the opinion in Sweden, as long as you could find an article like this one: USA frtjnar vrt fulla std ("USA deserves our full support" in Swedish). Henrik Anderson: Great article!

For more information on America, go to Amerikabrev.nu ("Letters from America" in Swedish).

My long-range goal is to return to America - the Land of Opportunity. In order to plan for my future, I have joined the Canadian American Friendship Society.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! LET'S ROLL, ALREADY!

I got in a very grumpy mood after reading a story about a so called "human shield", who is going to Iraq. The organization, "Friendship, peace and solidarity", will welcome the "human shields" with open arms. The same newspaper had an article on students who skipped school in protest of the war. If you want to have a history lesson on the peace movement, read Amir Taheri's article, Anti-war or anti-U.S.? [Via Fredrik Norman.]

Why are people so concerned about how the interrogation of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is conducted? Why be soft on the "mastermind" of the 9/11 terrorist attacks?

I recommend you to read the following editorials:
Innocents in War. By Onkar Ghate.
In Defense of the Cowboy. By Andrew Bernstein.

WAR POLL

After I had read Christopher Dickey's article, Rumors of War, I thought it was in order to have a poll on when you think that the war against Iraq will begin. Read Chip Joyce's prediction, Tripling the Ante. Whenever it will be, it is not a day too early, or what do you think?

MARCH 15: PEOPLE EATING TASTY ANIMALS

Mark your calendars! Join Meryl Yourish's campaign, International Eat an Animal for PETA Day, on March 15. How about Buffalo wings, club sandwich, hamburger, or ribs, at O'Learys? Yummy! I am getting hungry for a real pastrami sandwich. I haven't been able to find it in Gothenburg yet.

RECYCLING: GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT!

Recycling is an anti-industrial idea. The idea has been implemented by the manufacturing industry in Germany. The environmentalists labeled the idea as "Der Grne Punkt" (The Green Dot). I am glad to hear that some of the old leaders of the green movement in Sweden have changed their mind regarding recycling. [Via InstaPundit.]

I don't think that the bureaucrats at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency are happy campers at the movement...
