EGO ANNUAL BLOG REPORT XVII

I have now been blogging for 17 years and published 2813 posts. EGO blog has now been viewed >1 million times (pageviews so far: 1,190,063.)

I have been a bit more active on this blog during the year, due to the fact that I have set up this blog as a destination through my podcast host, Libsyn, so new episodes of EGO NetCast will automatically show up here as blog posts.

I will do an update on my birthday on May 25 with a special podcast episode, celebrating 17 years as a blogger and 13 years as a podcaster. I will also do a live streaming session, thanking the buyers, backers and supporters of my first book on tea, with illustrations by John Cox.

Next annual blog report will include my "last" site, TeaParty.Media.

Related: My post, Annual Blog Report XVI.

Eating Chocolate on Holy Cow Pink Thursday

Is it time to wash your feet and have your last supper on Maundy Thursday? Or should you celebrate your life and eat some chocolate? If you are a freethinker or atheist, how do you survive Easter? I recommend you to watch my favorite movie, Chocolate by Lasse Hallström during Easter (Lent).
Read Scott Holleran’s interview with Lasse Hallström and listen to my interview with Scott (10 years ago).
Please send me tips on tasty chocolate!

Patronage and Freedom of Speech

In this episode I am talking about freedom of speech, and how you could support my content creation, by donating via my page on Ko-fi. My publication plan is to publish on a regular basis, five (5) times per week. Maybe I should get a “publication license” and become a “legally responsible publisher”? I am “breaking” the law, by doing live streaming…

Tuesday Tech

I will talk about tech stuff on Tuesday. It could be an app, a gadget, etc. I recently did a talk at a podcasting conference in Stockholm, Sweden. I then used the presentation tool called Haiku Deck. As I searched Google News, I found out that Haiku Deck is now acquired by BookRags, an ”edtech” company in Seattle. I am interested to learn about Adam Tratt’s new ventures in the future, and how BookRags will develop Haiku Deck in the years to come.
What kind of presentation tools do you use?

Having a Positive Customer Experience

I miss the general, high level of customer service from my time in the United States of America. In this episode I will talk about the development of customer service to an experience, and how we could be approached by customer experience ambassadors in the future. I start out with sharing experiences from an after work gathering with a couple of friends. As you know, gather(ing) is one my three words for 2019.

As a new media advisor I want to give potential clients the idea that you start out with content as the king, and then move on with the context as the queen (of the chess game / your social media activities). I am for a constitutional republic, so I had to add a president to the mix. The president of the organization, should have a two-way communication plan in place. He or she should be present 24/7 through representatives of the brand / company / organization.

  • Content - King

  • Context - Queen

  • Communication - President

Amplifying Good Stories on the Internet

Yesterday I watched the documentary, Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story. It was a fascinating story about an actress who was an inventor. If you are using a Wi-Fi network in order to listen to this episode on your mobile, or reading the show notes, you should send a mental thank-you note through the airways to Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler. After watching the documentary, I wondered how the U.S. Navy could miss the opportunity to use her invention of a secure radio guidance system.

I then got thinking about the dangerous situation regarding the freedom of speech on the net, and how forces are trying to control, regulate and even doing a shutdown of the whole system.

As a food for thought, I want to end with Rand Fishkin’s post, The Tyranny of Optimizing for Amplification.

The Backpack for Podcasters

I will start out with saying that I am giving myself the flexibility of the time zone stamp of the recording and publishing of an episode, in order to stay on track. I am located in the Central European Time zone, but I am often working according to the Eastern Standard Time, giving me a buffer of 6 hours. If I want to stretch it, I could include American Samoa into the game, and add 3 more hours to my daily worklife. ;)

I want to make a correction to the previous episode. I mixed up Amy Peikoff’s news sandwich and started out with the bad news, then the good news item, and ending with another bad news. It should be two good news ideas (the bread), and only one bad piece, sandwiching it between the two pieces of ”bread”…

I am including screen dumps from the recording of this episode, using the new Backpack Studio app. With this app, I will be able to record the solo shows in an easy way. I learned about this app from listening to Libsyn’s official podcast. Back then it was called Boss Jock Studio. I will talk more about this app in future episodes, telling you about my experiences with the new app, features, etc.

My 3 Words for 2019

My three words for this year are:

  • Walk

  • Talk

  • Gather

I will talk more about my words during the year. You could listen to the 8th episode of Presentation (Skills) in Plain English podcast regarding my process of picking these words. The episode will be published on January 11. For the origin of the meme, read Chris Brogan’s post, My 3 Words for 2019.

Amy Peikoff’s news sandwich segment, and Joakim Jardenberg’s ”One Thing Today” (”En Sak Idag”), have inspired me to start a daily podcast during 2019. My goal is to publish a short solo episode everyday. It could be a quick thought, comment on a news item, etc. Please give me tips on sources for news items, commemorations of historical events, and international holidays.
