HOW TO MISHANDLE THE KORAN

Excuse if I am speaking bluntly here, but I am must say that I am p*ssed off by the ongoing chatter about how the Koran has been "mishandled" in some way. I repeat my question from my post, WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LIBRARY AT GITMO? Why do the prisoners get copies of the Koran in the first place? Do they have a right to get this holy book? Don't they understand that the terrorists are getting inspired by the ideas in the Koran? Not only are the prisoners receiving Korans free of charge, the books have to be handled according to special instructions. Here is an excerpt from the article, US Military Provides Details of Koran Mishandling at Guantanamo by Al Pessin.

In a series of news releases Friday, the Southern Command also published guidelines it issued in February for the handling of the Koran. That was before the Newsweek story was published, and officials have said the guidelines update an earlier effort to improve handling of the Koran at Guantanamo.

The guidelines say that only Muslim clergymen or interpreters, or the prisoners themselves, can even touch a Koran. When the clergymen or interpreters do so, they must put on clean gloves and may not do anything to show disrespect for the Muslim holy book, such as putting it on the floor or in any dirty areas. Guards are no longer allowed to touch the books at all. (VOANews.com, 06/04/05.)

UPDATE:
I agree with Ian's statement [via Michelle Malkin]:

Are these prisoners forgetting who gave them the Quran, and who allows them to have a Quran while they are incarcerated for being terrorists. Simple conclusion, DO NOT give them Qurans. (ThePoliticalTeen.net, A Quran Was Kicked, 06/03/05.)

DEEP THROAT AND NIPPLEGATE

SWEET CHILE SAUCE

I have got Louise Pickford's book, Grilling: Delicious Recipes for Outdoor Grills, as a gift. Have you started the BBQ season yet? Here is a recipe from the book (page 57):

Sweet Chile Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 6 red chile peppers, without the seeds, chopped.
  • 4 cloves of garlic, chopped.
  • 1 tea spoon of fresh ginger, grated.
  • 1 tea spoon salt.
  • 1 dl (3,38 fluid ounce) rice vinegar.
  • 1 dl (3,38 fluid ounce) sugar.

Put the chile peppers, garlic, ginger, and salt in a food processor and mix it into a coarse blend. Put the mix in a saucepan and add vinegar and sugar. Let it boil and then simmer for five minutes. (The lid should cover about 75% of the saucepan.) Take off the pot from the oven and let it cool down. Pour into a airtight can and put in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

My brother gave me a bottle of Melinda's Original Habanero XXXtra Hot Pepper Sauce and and a bag of Blair's Habanero chips as birthday presents. If you like chile and sweet peppers, go to my other blog and check out how my plants have grown.

THE UNDERCURRENT STAR WARS CONTEST

The Undercurrent has announced a new blogger contest. This time the topic is Star Wars. I haven't seen the movie yet. You are welcome to become a guest blogger for EGO, if you are interested in participating in the contest. The deadline is June 10. Read Felipe Sediles's post, Star Wars Review.

Today we had a meeting with our Objectivist club, discussing the distribution of the first issue of the Undercurrent here in Gothenburg.

[Editor's note to Henrik Unné: Thank you very much for your new donation!]

UPDATE 06/03/05:

Below is a photo of the front page of the Undercurrent, volume 1, issue 1, April 2005. We got permission by the student union at the School of Economics and Commercial Law, Gothenburg University, to put up the publication on the bulletin boards. We went to the library and gave copies of the paper and Ayn Rand's book, Anthem. It was raining so we did only have time to distribute about 20 copies of the Undercurrent on this first occasion. I am planning to visit other libraries, cafés, and specialty shops.
