SECULARISM IN TURKEY

In the news: Turks Rally in Support of Secularism - New York Times.

For more coverage, go to Gateway Pundit. [Editor's comment: Do you think that America could end up as a Nation of Islam? Is it time for a godless march again?]

UNICUM NEXT AND ESTONIA

I think we should raise a glass of Unicum and celebrate the decision by the Estonian government to remove a Soviet war statue from central Tallinn. [Editor's note to John: Thanks for the bottle of Unicum Next. Be safe in Estonia and please bring home a bottle of Vana Tallinn.]

UPDATE 05/05/07

VANA TALLINN

Read the editorial, Time To Stand Up For Estonia, in Investor's Business Daily. Lángos and Unicum is a good combination.

Here is a variation of June Meyer's recipe for langos.

Ingredients:

  • 3 - 4 potatoes, medium shape.
  • 1/2 package of yeast.
  • 1/2 cup of warm milk.
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar.
  • 1 1/2 cups of (potato) flour.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  • Oil (lard) for frying.

  1. Cook the potatoes and then mash them.
  2. Mix the milk with the yeast and sugar.
  3. Mix the mashed potatoes with flour, salt, yoghurt, caraway seeds and bits and pieces of chile pepper / paprika.
  4. Knee the dough well and the let it rest for some time. [Editor's comment: Some recipes say over night, but you probably want to eat these treats a.s.a.p. ;)]
  5. Roll out the dough and cut into circles. The center of the langos should be thinner than the edges.
  6. Fry the dishes in oil (or if you could get your hands on lard). You could use a deep frying pan or a wok. Fry on both sides until golden brown.

You could sprinkle some paprika powder on them for the Hungarian touch. Other toppings could be e.g., sea salt, chopped garlic, sour cream, grated cheese. For a delicious picture of langos, go to A Cat in the Kitchen.

Vana Tallinn is perfect with a cup of coffee. I will add a shot of Vana Tallinn next time I make a cappuccino for myself.

Cappuccino with a kick:
  1. Make an espresso.
  2. Add a shot of Vana Tallin.
  3. Pour steamed and foamed milk into the cup.

GLOBAL WARMING SWINDLE

I watched The Great Global Warming Swindle the other day. It was a fact based documentary and it exposed the hot air by the environmentalists. I wonder if the "greens" will start screaming against the sun soon...

NEW BLOGGER TEMPLATE

I think it is time for an update of the EGO template. It is now possible for me to change to the new Blogger platform. I want it to look like my other blog, but with three columns. It will take some time to go through the old template and adding the different components, scripts, and features with all the bells and whistles... [Editor's note: Maybe I should write in हिंदी from time to time! ;)] As always, please feel free to give me suggestions and tips on the design and layout.

SNHU BLOG

Southern New Hampshire University has started with a student blog. I enjoyed my time (1997 - 2000) at SNHU (former New Hampshire College) very much and I look forward to participate in an alumni event sometime in the future.

Talking about schools, check out Founders College in South Boston, Virginia. For a background, read Nicholas Provenzo's post, Understanding the Founders College Vision.

RYANAIR FLIGHTS TO AMERICA

It is great news to hear about Ryanair and Michael O'Leary's idea of offering "cheap flights across the pond." It is high time for a real open skies agreement between the "land of opportunity" and the "old world." This will lead to more business and an increased global trade between companies. I bet we will hear angry voices and plenty of hot air from the environmentalists...

I will not give up the newly started Blue Chip Community, a small business network in Gothenburg, during Lent... I have a tradition to watch Lasse Hallström's movie, Chocolat, at Easter.
